TCAE is excited to invite independent money-laundering expert Dev Odedra to share his insights on The European Union’s Sixth Anti-Money Laundering Directive (6MLD). In this session, Dev will explain what an EU Directive actually is and how we have arrived at the 6MLD. He will go through the key inclusions in the Directive, impact on the UK as a result of Brexit, and what can happen when a Directive is not put into effect. Finally, he will go through a first-hand example of how things can go wrong when there is a lack of appreciation for taking into account changes as a result of updates to money laundering directives.

Dev Odedra is an independent money-laundering expert and the founder of ‘The Laundry’, a financial crime media aggregator. Dev has significant experience in managing money laundering risk in the retail, corporate and investment banking sectors, having worked at a number of global banks before setting up his own consultancy. His expertise covers a variety of areas of money laundering, including investigations, advisory and controls implementation and improvement.

Souzan Esmaili, Compliance & AML Consultant | Founder, TCAE

Souzan Esmaili has over 15 years of international experience in consultancy and training with a focus on Regulatory Compliance, Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Bribery and Corruption and RegTech. She worked for various financial institutions and consultancies in Dubai and Toronto.

In Toronto, she worked with one of the international banks and covered their Anti-Bribery and Corruption program for Canada and Latin America.

Prior to moving to Canada, Souzan worked as a senior consultant and assisted her clients to understand their compliance needs, advised on meeting regulatory requirements and managed a multitude of remediation projects.

She has acted as the Compliance Officer and MLRO for a number of firms regulated by the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) and advised extensively on matters related to Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC).
