Non Fungible Tokens – The Future of Art or Fad

Non-fungible tokens (NFTs), a type of digital asset, have exploded in popularity this year, with NFT artworks selling for millions of dollars and musicians embracing them for their latest album. The digital artist Mike Winkelmann, professionally known as Beeple, just sold an NFT—a “non-fungible token,” an asset on a cryptocurrency blockchain—of his image Everydays: the First 5000 Days at auction by Christie’s for $69,346,250. This is the third most expensive auction sale ever of a work by a living artist. And the buyer is based in Singapore. There are daily developments in the NFT space, and it’s a good time to discuss beyond the hype of NFTs – Opportunities or just plain fad? Blockchain Association of Singapore is pleased to host a panel session on this hot topic, with various expert representation from the different aspects of this nascent industry.
