    Tips on Writing Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) Narratives

    This webinar addresses effective SAR writing in the context of the SAR’s ultimate purpose: to assist law enforcement in investigation and subsequent prosecution of criminal activity. After an introductory discussion of how submitted SAR data is reviewed and stored, Laurie Kelly, CAMS will present detailed recommendations for constructing an effective SAR narrative. She will also review the appropriate use of SAR form checkboxes, the SAR attachment feature, and the distinction between “new” and “continuing activity” SARs. Further, Laurie will introduce the concept of SAR case reports as an effective tool in case management as well as providing valuable detailed information to law enforcement upon request.
    By the end of the presentation attendees will:
    • Understand how SARs are processed, read and used by law enforcement
    • Understand the key concepts in writing a SAR narrative that captures the attention of law enforcement readers and FinCEN database queries
    • Know when to use the SAR attachment feature
    • Know how to use SAR form checkboxes correctly
    • Understand the difference between “new” and a “continuing activity” SAR types
    • Understand the value of the SAR case report both for internal case management and as a detailed information source for law enforcement
